My Offer at Abbott: Ecstatic is an Understatement

Hope. Faith. Perseverance. This semester has been a test for me as a person and for my strength. I’ve kept a low profile through social media and have not put out much content due to putting all my time towards recruitment…AND I am extremely excited to announce it has paid off!

I walked out of my exam, checked my phone and saw the email, “Hi Nicole, Can you talk??” I responded “Yes” and my phone rang while waiting in the hallway five minutes later. A pleasant greeting and small talk was followed by , “…Abbott Nutrition would like to extend an offer for their Retail Development Program to you!”—

Ecstatic is an understatement. I accepted the offer about a month ago and found I will be located in Cincinnati, Ohio for 6-12 months followed by a rotation in a TBD location for another screen-shot-2016-11-12-at-10-13-49-pm6-12 months. These rotations will encompass functions in Retail Operations and Data Analytics. After I complete the program, I will hopefully be placed in a permanent position within the company.

While I have shared this news with very close family, I am very excited to share with friends and everyone else. I was honestly so overwhelmed with excitement the first few weeks because Abbott is a dream company of mine. It felt like a fairytale when receiving the offer because obtaining a job I am passionate about has been a goal of mine since I started high school.

Their newest brand, Curate, is even gluten free!

I’ve had my eye on Abbott Nutrition since last year when going through internship recruitment. I continued to pursue them this year because of their phenomenal Retail Development Program & my values greatly aligned with their company and culture. Abbott Nutrition is a division of Abbott Laboratories and focuses on their supplemental brands. You may be familiar with one or more; Pedialyte, Ensure, Similac, Zone Bars, Curate Bars, EAS Sports Nutrition and more.

I want to thank everyone for all of the support and encouragement throughout this process. Countless hours had been put in for career fairs, cover letters, interviews, interview preparation, and traveling to company headquarters. There were many ups and downs through my job search journey, but it was 100% worth it. I am grateful for the rejections I received because each failure pushed me to reflect, research and prepare even more for other opportunities. I can’t wait to share my experience and grow professionally with Abbott Nutrition.

img_6900And for those curious about Adam, as we’ve been together forevaaa and will continue to be– Adam will be in Bloomington one more year to complete a Masters Program in Information Systems at the Kelley School of Business. It was a difficult decision as he had received a full time offer in August at Cummins in Indiana, but is really excited for this program and future opportunities! I’m thrilled for the both of us, and I can’t wait to venture Cincinnati together when he visits (:

My last little bits before I sign off– if you are going through this process soon or right now, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Make sure to be yourself, but also be sure to be prepared. Remember you’re interviewing the company as well to see if the company fits for you (Shoutout to my former supervisor at Cook Pharmica, Melanie, for this piece of advice because it greatly impacted my interview experiences). And, remember that failure is simply the opportunity to begin again.

  1. Congratulations, Nicole!!! And Adam! That’s awesome! Hard work always pays off. You can take a break but don’t give up. Throwing imaginary confetti in the air.
